PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

Also known as the ‘Vampire Facial’ or ‘Vampire Facelift’, it has been made famous by celebrities such as Angelina Jolie and Kim Kardashian. Having developed a following amongst celebrities in Hollywood and New York, the treatment is now available here in Australia.

What is PRP?

PRP is an autologous treatment derived from your own blood. It is a safe and natural alternative to drugs and surgery. When you cut your finger, the platelets in your blood clot to form a protective layer around the injury. They emit growth factors which help to heal your cut, growth hormone is one of these many growth factors. PRP utilizes growth factors for healing and rejuvenation for the benefit of anti-aging.

Our nurse or doctor will take your blood (like a normal blood test). The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP which contains a large concentration of growth factors and platelets integral to healing and skin rejuvenation. Cosmetic PRP is a revolutionary cosmetic treatment that rejuvenates the skin, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

What to expect during the treatment procedure?

The area to be treated is cleansed and a local anesthetic cream is applied. The PRP is then injected directly into the area to be treated. This treatment will take approximately 60 minutes.

How does it work?

PRP contains a high proportion of cytokines, white blood cells and growth factors vital for the regeneration of tissue. Growth factors in the PRP stimulate cells called dermal fibroblasts, increasing their replication and production of collagen and elastin. These are responsible for tissue strength and elasticity, which are often lost in an aging skin.

PRP also stimulates adipocytes which are responsible for facial fullness and reduction of nasal-labial folds and smile lines.

What results can I expect from the treatment?

How long does it take for PRP to work on the face?

It takes 30 days for the new collagen to regenerate itself. This treatment takes time to work as your skin will revitalise its self. The PRP treatment usually takes between 30 minutes to an hour.
